Video games and children

Post 1- Video games and children
In today’s society, video games and children go hand in hand. In some situations
they are virtually inseparable. But to me, this is becoming an epidemic that
needs to be addressed. When children rather play video games than go to school
or do their homework, is a problem that will keep growing unless we influence
parents to do more. I feel that there are 2 points to this argument. First,
parents need to tell their children that video games are a luxury, not a job.
Their jobs as children are to learn and become the future of the world. Parents
need to foster in their children that going to school and doing their homework
is the best thing for them, and that video games should be something they do
for fun. Another argument to this argument is that parents need to talk with
their children about the reality or lack of reality in video games. The graphics in today’s video games is out of
this world. Video games in essence are real to the viewer because it is so realistic.
But the blur between reality and not reality is becoming vaguer to children. This
is where the parents need to have more influence. They need to explain to their
children that playing a game that involves killing people or robbing people is
just a game. I feel that parents are lacking in this area today and that if
this continues the effects of video games can be endless. It’s time to step up
and explain to children what’s real and what’s not.
