Twitter Diary

In late October there was a discussion about people using social networks such as Twitter and Facebook as food diaries to help them to lose weight. I thought this was a great means of using humility as motivation. Keeping a diary and lying to yourself is not nearly as hard as writing something that is lying to yourself as well as your peers or curious browsers. By having things written out for you to see every day it makes you become a lot more conscious about what you’re eating because you know you’re going to have to tweet about it later. I thought this was a very clever motivation tool that had never crossed my mind before and am thinking of starting a diary of my own. I would like to write down the days I work out and how long I spend working out. My first impression of this idea in the past would have been “oh this kid is just trying to brag about working out, whata tool.” Now I see it from a completely different perspective that it’s not bragging it’s more of a way of keeping yourself in check.

As for the family that goes to burger king for family dinners because they claim it’s cheaper than going to the grocery store, well that’s just malarkey. There are plenty of meals to prepare that cost less than the twelve dollars they spent on their “value meal.” They don’t need more money they need more education about economics. They money they have is enough to buy them healthy food that doesn’t cause diabetes and cause them to spend money on medicine. Take the time to shop smart and you can make a dollar stretch a lot father at a grocery store than any fat food drive thru. I mean fast food drive thru.
