The Power of Twitter

So I have to admit before this class I was not a big user on twitter. Also didn't think that twitter really had a lot of power in the social media. Yes I used twitter every once in a while, but didn't tweet very often. Even after all of the twitter talk in class, it still didn't catch my attention to use it. Once we started the twitter project,I was on the David Lettermen retweet group and that made me really get into tweeting. I figured since that I was tweeting for the project I might as well tweet for some other things as well. So I started following some of my favorite country singers/ bands, which like I stated in my previous blog i started to form parasoical relationships with them. Country singer and friends are about the only people that I really follow.
Because the country singers travel so much a lot of them like to do little trivia games, and other various types of games on twitter. Mainly I wouldn't participate in the twitter games because either they are not in the state so I can't play, or also I feel like they have so many other people playing I'll never get picked as a winner. Well that is all wrong...ever since last Friday and tonight. Josh Thompson was in town friday night at Ball State and I decide to play his twitter game of finding meet and greet passes on the Ball State campus. He tweets a picture of where he hid's the pass/tickets and the first one to find them wins. So he tweeted a picture of a shirt and said "find the guy in this shirt and he will have meet n greet passes". Right before the concert I went and found the guy, and won the passes. Got to meet Josh Thompson all just because of the power of Twitter!
Then tonight I was checking twitter and saw that another one of my favorite artist Josh Gracin was playing a trivia game. So I thought well lets give it a try and play. Josh then tweeted a riddle, and he wanted people to tweet a picture that went along with the riddle. He was taking serious and funny answers. I tweeted a picture of what I thought went really well with his riddle. With in about 5 minutes or so I had a direct message from him saying that my picture had won. I won what he was giving away, also he retweeted my answer, and then started following me on twitter. Lets just say I am one really happy girl right now. And just because of all this it gave me something great to blog about.
So in the long run of this whole blog post I really do believe now that twitter is a huge social media power tool, and connect you with so many different things. Yeah it might take a while to get a retweet by someone famous, but once it happens you think of things a lot different. Because of twitter I wouldn't be able to follow my favorite country artist, and play there fun and silly games. After winning two games on twitter, I think that I will become a much more avid user of twitter. Thanks to #BSUPOP I now have a slight addiction to twitter, and playing celebrities twitter games. :D
